Classic cars: what they are, definition, benefits
How many times have you heard of classic cars? And how many historic cars? Certainly many times, and you’ve probably assumed that classic cars and historic cars are one and the same. But this is not the case at all: they are two distinct types of cars and the Highway Code also specifies it. If you are planning to buy a car over twenty or thirty years old because you have heard about the advantages of owning one, however, it is good that you know the difference between classic and historic cars because, in addition to enjoying the advantages of owning oneof the used cars in chandler, you may have also some important limitations.
When can you define a vintage car?
These cars are not intended for circulation but for storage in museums, public or private, or at the headquarters of cultural associations. Furthermore, to be defined as vintage cars, they must be registered in a special list of the Historic Center of the Department for land transport. If your car has decades behind it but isn’t on this list, then it’s not a classic car.
Road circulation is allowed for vintage cars only with prior authorization issued by the Department for Land Transport on the occasion of specific events (usually vintage car rallies), only for the time necessary to carry out the event. and along a predetermined route. With a classic car, in practice, you can hardly get around it.
The “historic cars”, on the other hand, are cars that can circulate safely on the road because they meet all the requirements of the Highway Code and have not been canceled by the PRA.
If your car is thirty or forty years old (or even more), but it is not registered in one of the registers, then it is not a historic car. If your neighbor’s car, identical to yours, is instead registered in one of the registers, then it is historic.
As for age, however, the Code says that a car can become historic only if it has been “built” (not registered) for at least 20 years. But, at the same time, the CdS also says that the year of construction means that of first registration “unless proven otherwise”. If your car was built before it was registered then you will have to prove it yourself.
What are the benefits of a classic car and a historic car?
The benefits of owning a classic car, but also a historic car, are many. First of all, the value of the car on the second-hand market: vintage cars have a completely separate market from that of normal cars, with prices that can become very high, while historic ones really attract a lot of interest from collectors. Especially if in excellent condition and if they have not undergone any changes compared to the original model.
